We want to bring to your attention a concerning email scam currently targeting individuals and businesses in Australia. Fraudsters are sending emails that impersonate IP lawyers and registered trade mark attorneys, including our IP specialist, Sandy Donaldson (see Register Your TM email signature below) who is not a registered trade mark attorney, and possibly other members of our team, like our other IP specialist, Amy Bishop, who is a registered trade mark attorney.

The objective of the scam emails may be to pressure you into filing unnecessary trade mark applications or to have you pay fees for trade mark applications that will not be made. These scammers often claim that your trade mark or business name is at risk of being registered by someone else, creating a false sense of urgency to trick you into engaging their services and making payments.

Key signs of this scam may include:

  • Emails from unfamiliar or suspicious domains (in this instance, sandy@registeryourtm.com).
  • Urgent demands to act quickly to “secure” your trade mark.
  • Requests for payment or personal information without proper verification.

We want to assure you that no one at DW Fox Tucker Lawyers will contact you in this manner. If you receive an email with a business signature similar to the one below, please do not respond or click any links.

To protect yourself:

  • Be cautious of unsolicited emails, even if they appear legitimate.
  • Verify any trade mark-related correspondence independently through trusted channels.
  • Check with us before taking action in relation to your trade marks - you can call us on 08 8124 1811 or send us an email at info@dwft.au
  • Report suspicious emails to IP Australia (https://www.ipaustralia.gov.au) and ScamWatch (https://www.scamwatch.gov.au).

Your trust and security are always our top priorities. If you’ve received a questionable email or have concerns, please contact us immediately. We’re here to assist you.
